"It is so disgraceful as a new American Citizen that the U.S. government is not looking out for it's citizens. Our Country is in major turmoil in 2008 - oil prices, foreclosures, down market etc. etc. Politicians don't feel it because it really doesn't affect their own pocket. And yet as divided as our Political Parties are at this time we (the American people really need someone on our side.) This will be my first chance to vote in a Presidential election and yet I feel that not one Canidate actually cares about the number or foreclosure in my city or that a record number of people are using their retirement funds to survive and purchase the necessities, while they spend millions of dollars promoting themselves for the election. Hey Politicians you want people's respect and vote start thinking about their pockets and stop spending absurd amounts of money by promoting yourself and start helping our your constiuents more."

"The issue of drilling for oil has gone on far too long. Both parties are to blame for the situation we find ourselves in today. It's obvious to me (and other voters) that the Congress has abdicated their responability to the good people of this nation perferring instead to spend their time arguing, delaying/blocking and attempting to manuver legislation to enhance their party's standing over the other. There are a lot of unhappy voters over Congress's resistance to drilling. They are not buying the phrase "we can't drill our way out of this." Drill Now!"

"In 1851 when we first drilled in america,We made people go back to work and feed their family. It will work drill here, sell some oil over seas,Maybe the liberals will "come together" with the conservitive."

"The time has come for all our representatives to realize that they were elected to work for the people and not some lobbiet that has only the insterest of the company of companies they represent. you were not put in congress to make yourself rich or to begin a dysesty that is to be held for family members when you are tired of Washington. Or you have done all the damage you can do. Get off your cans and do what you were elected to do or we will fire you!"

"It's pretty sad when minimum wage is almost the cost of a gallon of gas. My kids have to suffer cause they cannot see their friends as much as they like. It's coming down to you work to either put gas in your vehicle; to get back and forth to work, or else you pay bills and buy groceries. And you can't live without either; so now it's to the point, how do we survive?"

"Gas prices and the inefficiency of lawmakers has been sent to both Senator Feinstein and Congressman Drier. During World War I.I. gas prices were frozen because we were at war Interesting enough is that neither the Senator or Congressman would address that matter in their reply back to me. The gas price issue has brought this Country to its knees. Yet the Congress/Senate do nothing but talk, talk, talk, which has been going on for years. They have spent 7 yr's attacking Presidnt Bush and have produced relatively nothing substantial for this Country. I've had my Real Estate license for 26 yrs. and never has there been a disaster of the current magnatitude in the housing market. Bailing out people who lost their home is NOT the answer. Many homebuyers fully knew whether they could afford their home purchase and many went out and then bought new cars to match the new home! I saw the Fed's audit a Mortgage Company in our area and look for fraud the Officer' of the institution laughed loudly, because they said the auditors didn't even know wht to look for.............. We need lawmakers with intestinal fortitude to get a handle on all of this = and now - not later."

"The cost of rising gas prices goes way beyond the increase of filling up our gas tank. The cost of everything is increasing due to the cost of oil. Enough is enough. Those living on fixed income and the working poor are in need of help. NOW!! Why can't we stop sending our US dollars to those governments that are benefiting from this insane price run away. Food and health benefits that go directing to their people, should continue. The entire structure of US Government has failed the American people. I don't like the idea of drilling, but no one has come up with another solution. All of us need to look for ways to change our demand for oil. Petition your local government to start now to use alternatives. It is clear that we can not wait for our Governments-local-state-national to do anything but blame one another. I am so tried of that game! This is the time for the American people to demand action; or, take action."

"I can't afford these prices. I've completely parked our Ford Explorer and have to fit a family of five in a small Hyundai. We can't afford to drive our kids to camp, we have to send them in a van with strangers. We basically stay local as much as possible. Vacation? In our dreams!!! DRILL for OIL, you can use my backyard!"

"I fully support your drill here, drill now effort and have signed the petition and have passed it to to several others. It looks like the Democratic response has been to ignore the people and to pretend like nothing is happening. Maybe we need some way to make a political statement that the politicians and the media cannot ignore. How about a 5 million man march on Washington before the November elections? Another question that I have is this. If we are successful in opening US drilling, how can we insure that Americans will receive the benefits. My fear is the the oil companies will sell the oil on the world market at world prices, and Americans will not be the direct beneficiary. If congress has to approve the leases, can restrictions be placed on the disposition of the oil? Thank you for your leadership."

"Memo to President Bush and Congress: You have blown $30 billion of our tax dollars on Amtrak since 1971. Deamand is up and Amtrak executives say they can't handle it and it will cause them to lose more money. Here's the solution. Sell Amtrak, Sell Now, Save Fuel You can get a big price for Amtrak from the private sector. The private sector will make it work and work well. In short order we will have an efficient rail system in the US that will run on time, treat customers like customers, go fast, and have modern cars. Give me a dividend in the form of a travel chit that can only be used on Amtrak. After all, I have dumped my share of the lost $30 billion into this fiasco."

"Why is this such a heated debate...it should be a no brainer. But,for those who can't handle the complicated workings of economics or politics.I'll use a simple example..ever bought anything? Have you ever told the salesman that you can find it cheaper down the street and watched him start lowering his price to try and get what little money he could, just so that he got some of it? There you have it,let's send a message to the rest of the world that we will pay the amount we see fit and if you don't want to sell it to us,that's fine we have our own..People stop watching so much main stream television.I mean really,is Britney Spears having another baby,or whatever Paris Hilton is doing really newsworthy. This is what they hang there hat on every night....And as far as what heartache this mess has caused me. EVERYTHING..I am a small business owner that is now looking for a job because the cost of diesel has made it unprofitable to keep the doors open..Living the American Dream.. Make no mistake we are the greatest nation on the PLANET and we should start acting and thinking as such..."

"I drive 22 miles one way 5 days each week to work. My husband drives 30. Rising gas prices may force me to quit my job. You see, in Idaho, our public transportation options are almost non-existant. We do not drive anywhere except work, picking up necessities on the way. Next, we will be cutting all of the extras out of our lives. We spend over $600 per month on gas. Congress just doesn't get it. All they see is global warming and the need to get rid of carbon pollution. I agree. But we cannot make the complete change overnight and meanwhile, people like me need to eat and work. I am more concerned with keeping my job and feeding my children than I am about Al Gore's environmental theories. Let's make the switch to new technology over the next decade. Right now, drill now and the news will drive the prices of oil down so people can work and eat. Whatever party grasps this issue and shouts it out to the people will win the November elections."
